Two-time Clemson national champion Diondre Overton dies at the age of just 26 and receives condolences.

The football team announced the tragic news on Saturday before their game against Appalachian State, writing: “Clemson football and the entire Clemson family mourns the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton.”

“Our thoughts are with his friends and family.”

Overton played as a wide receiver for the team from 2016 to 2019 and won two national championships. In his career, he caught 52 passes for 777 yards.

No cause of death has been announced yet.

Following his death, several of his former teammates took to social media to express their tribute to their friend.

“Life isn’t fair, man,” Amari Rodgers wrote, adding, “Please tell your loved ones you love them because you never know. Long live Dre.”

Tee Higgins, now a star wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL, wrote: “Brother, I miss you already man. I love you 5L. This hurts so much right now.”

Arizona Cardinals defensive end Xavier Thomas wrote on his former teammate’s Instagram: “I love you to death, man. I’ll do anything for you, buddy. Fly high.”

Less than 24 hours before his death, Overton posted a cryptic message to his Instagram stories, sharing a quote that read, “God will work this out. Don’t worry.”

He also wished a friend – Lennon – a happy birthday. She later reposted the message and added: “There’s no way this was our last message.”

Overton went undrafted after leaving Clemson, but later signed with various teams in the Canadian Football League and the United States Football League.

He was initially signed by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, but did not play a single game for them before heading to Europe to sign with the Vienna Vikings.

In 2022, he returned to America and was drafted by the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL before moving to the Pittsburgh Maulers.

In January of this year he was selected by the Memphis Showboats.
