All about PEOPLE’s exciting moment in “The Perfect Couple” on Netflix

Warning: This article contains spoilers from Netflix’ The perfect couple.

When The perfect couple debuted on Netflix, there were unexpected twists and turns and a defining moment that piqued the interest of the folks at PEOPLE.

As it turns out, the magazine plays a crucial role in the plot of the six-part crime drama starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber. The series is about a wealthy couple whose son Benji Winbury (Billy Howle) is set to marry Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson).

Kidman plays Greer Garrison Winbury, a famous novelist and Sacks’ future mother-in-law who “spares no expense in planning what promises to be the most important wedding of the season – until a body turns up on the beach,” the official synopsis states.

PEOPLE is mentioned in the first episode of the miniseries when Greer gets a call from her press agent, Enid Collins (Adina Porter), who is trying to get her excited about an upcoming magazine cover story revolving around her marriage, tentatively titled “The Perfect Couple.” *wink-wink*

The call comes at an inopportune time – just moments before Greer discovers that her husband Tag (Schreiber) has apparently purchased a diamond bracelet for another woman.

“I’ve been thinking about all this, Enid, and I… actually, I’d like to get away from this whole ‘perfect couple’ obsession. It’s ridiculous,” she says, sighing on the phone. “I don’t even know why they’re still interested, we’ve been married for a hundred years.”

Greer replies, “They’re interested because you’ve been married for 29 years. You’re her Dash and her Dolly in real life. That’s part of your mythology.”

As the investigation progresses in Episode 3, things become more and more worrying. Despite the murder that just took place on the property, Greer decides to go through with her interview with PEOPLE to keep up appearances.

“PEOPLE magazine will be here this afternoon and then on Tuesday we have my book launch,” she says, ticking off a list. When her family members ask her if she wants to postpone the events, she declines, “because people are flying in from New York and London and we would have to explain why.”

Later that afternoon, Tag tells PEOPLE the secret to their 29-year marriage is “being on the same page as much as possible.”

The journalist asks if “unconditional love” is a factor in their success, and Greer disagrees. Instead, she claims that their marriage doesn’t require unconditional love, but rather protecting each other during “mistakes, big and small.” Things soon become awkward when Tag starts interrupting Greer’s answers and finishing her sentences.

He adds that “teamwork” and “a healthy sex life” are the key to their marriage. After comparing his wife’s work ethic to that of a “workhorse,” Tag begins singing in the pouring rain, interrupting their conversation.

Behind closed doors, Greer accuses Tag of showing up for the interview with a “brain full of marijuana,” to which Tag fires back: “PEOPLE magazine is here and suddenly you’ve found some damn wrong morals? Suddenly we’re the perfect family?”

Finally, the whole family gathers in the living room for a photo. While the photographer takes pictures, the journalist smiles: “You all look fantastic, you must be so proud.”
