A heat warning for much of the Bay Area goes into effect Wednesday morning and lasts through Thursday night, as temperatures between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius are expected in most locations, according to the National Weather Service.

The heat warning even applies to San Francisco, which is normally exempt from such heat warnings: According to the weather service, temperatures of just over 30 degrees are expected there.

Meteorologist Kari Hall observes in the microclimate forecast the hot temperatures and unhealthy air quality with a cooling down over the weekend.

A heat warning means there is a moderate risk of heat that may affect heat-sensitive individuals, especially those without access to adequate cooling or hydration, the weather service explains.

Weather officials advise people in affected areas to drink plenty of fluids, stay indoors with air conditioning and avoid the sun if possible. Small children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

The heat warning is officially in effect from Wednesday 11:00 a.m. to Thursday 11:00 p.m.
