NFL 2024 Preview: Season Predictions Including Super Bowl Champion, MVP, Biggest Surprises and More

The 2024 NFL season begins tonight with the Kansas City Chiefs defending their second consecutive Super Bowl title against the Baltimore Ravens, who were the AFC’s No. 1 seed last season.

The game should be great. And after that? Both later in Week 1 and well beyond?

Our Yahoo Sports NFL team has given their picks for MVP, Coach of the Year, Biggest Surprise, Biggest Disappointment, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Offensive Rookie of the Year, Defensive Rookie of the Year, First-round pick, Super Bowl Matchup and Final Score.

Three writers predict the Kansas City Chiefs will win an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl, another predicts a Chiefs loss to the Green Bay Packers, and the last predicts the Detroit Lions will end decades of heartache and hopelessness.

All five MVP picks are different, while Atlanta Falcons second-year running back Bijan Robinson was unanimously voted Offensive Player of the Year. And even though Caleb Williams was the No. 1 overall pick, found a good situation in Chicago and impressed this preseason, only one writer chose him as Offensive Rookie of the Year.

And to underscore what strange NFL days these are compared to most other times this century, the New England Patriots are the favorites to have the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to three writers. Maybe it’s time to get educated on the class, Pats fans?
