PALO ALTO – A burglar broke into a Palo Alto home Tuesday night and stole jewelry while the resident slept, police said.
According to Palo Alto police in a press release, officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of Barron Avenue around 10:40 p.m. because a burglary had been reported.
The resident, a woman in her 90s, slept through the break-in, police said. She was subsequently woken up by a phone call from her alarm system, asking about an alarm activation that had occurred at around 10:20 p.m.
The alarm company also notified the woman’s adult daughter, police said. The daughter, who lives nearby, came to her mother’s house, found the front door open and called police.
The investigation revealed that the burglar probably entered the house through an unlocked door and ransacked several rooms, police said. Jewelry was missing from the woman’s bedroom.
Police said there was no evidence the break-in was connected to another burglary that occurred July 27 at an occupied home in the 800 block of University Avenue.
