City Food Hall with many restaurants opens in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – A new culinary and entertainment center is being built in Gainesville right next to the University of Florida campus.

Now open in downtown Gainesville, the municipal market features ten eateries and a full-service bar.

What makes this food hall so special, according to management, is the wide variety of food on offer. There’s everything from bagels, pizza, tacos, rice bowls and even an ice cream parlor.

“We go to different cities and bring together the best chefs in their field. We get the best taco chef, the best burger chef, the best sushi chef and build a community with all of those chefs,” says Peter Rounce, CEO of City Food Hall.

Rounce says they’ll also be adding some familiar Gainesville favorites, like Luke’s Bagels. He said he feels Gainesville needs a restaurant like this and is excited to see it grow.

“This is a community-oriented location, so it’s perfect for families,” Rounce said. “We have a lot of things, a lot of reasons for people to come downtown. So, we have sushi, we have burgers, we have Luke’s Bagels.”

Rounce says he hopes to attract not only students, but families from across the area.

He says they are preparing for the chaos that game day will bring this weekend. They will open around 10am on Saturday and say they will host the game in the cozy atmosphere of their food hall for everyone to enjoy.
