Rene’s travel diary part 2

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, Montana (WAGM) – Twenty-one county travelers visited three national parks in Montana, Wyoming and Utah during a 10-day Holiday Vacations/WAGM trip. All week, Rene Cloukey is keeping his travel journal.

Every single day of our trip was a memory and as I have always said: pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this trip.

The third day of the trip began with a trip to Glacier National Park in northwest Montana along the Rocky Mountains. The park was established in May 1910. Our group of over 40 travelers boarded the historic red buses that have been in use since the mid-1930s. The buses also have a retractable roof that allows for unobstructed sightseeing. The drivers are called “jammers” because you could hear them locking the gears when the buses still had regular transmissions. The buses took us on a 50-mile hike through Logan’s Pass. The trip gave us the opportunity to see many of the 762 lakes and 175 mountains that make up Glacier National Park. Logan’s Pass sits at an elevation of 6,000 feet. As you climb Logan’s Pass, you can see the mountain on one side and on the other side you can look thousands of feet below you. There are 26 glaciers in the park and the largest is Harrison Glacier. The tour guides told us the history of the pass and the park.

Although it was a little chilly climbing the pass, everyone dressed warmly and enjoyed the true beauty of the day. Our tour ended with lunch and then we boarded our tour bus to continue our journey to Great Falls, Montana. On the fourth day, we went to the Lewis and Clark Museum and learned about their 8,000 mile journey west.
