5 food and drink specials this weekend, August 30 – September 1, in Hong Kong

The festival offers Portuguese specialties such as grilled sardines on toast, bifana (marinated pork slice sandwiches), chocolate (Pork and paprika sausages) Piri Piri chicken and of course Pastel de Nata (custard tart).

The event also features live music, wine tasting and souvenirs to take home. Tickets cost HK$80 (US$10) per person and are available at sardine-festival.com.

2. Hutongs Hai Na Bai Chuan Four Hands Tasting Menu

A menu co-created by chefs Yung Keung-cheung from Hutong in Hong Kong and Ren Dingxu from its sister restaurant in Dubai will launch on August 30 and be available until September 30.

The couple have put together an eight-course menu (HK$988 per person) that combines influences from Shanghai and Sichuan cuisine, including dishes such as tea-smoked pigeon and Sichuan-style Chilean sea bass with bamboo shoots.

3. Vision Nine

After weeks of announcements, Vission Bakery’s successor shop, Vission Nine, has opened next door. Its speciality is cakes and tarts, with creations such as Baileys coffee cheesecake with an Oreo biscuit base and the famous pistachio log cake, infused with blackcurrant compote, pistachio ganache and crunchy pistachio spread.

4. Brothers reunited in Ankoma

To celebrate the second anniversary of his restaurant AnkomaChef Frankie Wong, in collaboration with his good friend and fellow chef Antoni Au, will host a four-hands dinner for three evenings, from August 30 to September 1.

The two were colleagues at the now-closed restaurant Ecriture, where Au was head chef, and the “Brothers Reunited” menu reflects their shared culinary philosophies.

The dishes reflect her French training, with creations such as celtuce and caviar tart and a Wagyu and salmon pithivier – a round pie. The 11-course menu costs HK$1,880, with optional drinks.

5. Bratcha Lattes at Crew Coffee

Yes, Hong Kong is a little behind, but thanks to Crew Coffee’s comprehensive campaign, we’re still feeling the spirit of Charlie XCX’s “Brat Summer.”

The company has partnered with Hong Kong artist Nicole Law to transform the concrete wall opposite the cafe into the city’s first unofficial brat mural in all its green glory, and is also offering a limited edition of “Bratcha Lattes” (matcha lattes, even if they call them something else) with cheeky brat-themed stickers.
