Packers make shocking announcement and place fan favorite on season-ending injury list

The Green Bay Packers will have to do without the services of one of their fan favorites in the 2024 National Football League season.

Green Bay reduced its roster to 53 players on Tuesday afternoon and announced that running back AJ Dillon will miss the season after being placed on the injured list, ending his season, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

“The Packers have placed (running back) AJ Dillon (neck) on the injured list and not scheduled him to return. He is officially out for the entire 2024 season,” Pelissero said.

Dillon was mentioned as someone who could leave the Packers in the offseason, but he stayed through the summer. The 26-year-old will now miss all of 2024 due to his neck injury.

The announcement was one of the most surprising of the day, which saw hundreds of players released and several traded within the league. The new season begins in just under two weeks and Green Bay must find a way to cope without Dillon in the backfield.

Selected by the Packers in the second round of the 2020 National Football League Draft, he has been a key part of the offense over the past four seasons, having 613 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground last year.

Hopefully, Dillon will make a full recovery and be ready to play in 2025. The Packers certainly still have a good chance to make a splash in 2024, but it’s unfortunate that they will be without the services of one of their fan favorites.
