Selena Gomez says the reboot of Wizards of Waverly Place is “like a dream”

Selena Gomez says this Wizards of Waverly Place is just as magical now as it was when she left.

In a recent interview with PeopleThe 32-year-old singer-songwriter opened up about the process of bringing her hit Disney Channel series back to life with a reboot scheduled for this fall. “It was like a dream,” she told the network in a video clip posted on Tuesday (August 27).

“I truly feel like this is where I started and I will always be grateful for that time,” added the Rare Beauty founder. “I just hope this new chapter can bring joy to a whole new audience, just like we did when we were younger.”

The new wizard Gomez will reprise her role as Alex Russo and will also serve as an executive producer. David Henrie will lead the show, along with a number of new characters, and return to his role as Justin Russo, Alex’s older brother.

Fans got their first look at the reboot in May when photos surfaced showing the “Single Soon” singer and her co-stars posing on set. In one photo, Gomez and Henrie hold their wands in what appears to be the same magic cave as in the Disney Channel original series, which ran from 2007 to 2012; in another, the couple smiles in a new kitchen setup alongside the actors who play Justin’s family: Alkaio Thiele, Janice Leann Brown, Max Matenko and Mimi Gianopulos.

The interview excerpt appeared on the same day as Only murders in the buildingThe fourth season of The Last Man premieres on Hulu. Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short return to their roles as crime podcasters Mabel, Charles and Oliver. The Lose You to Love Me artist recently received her first Emmy nomination in an acting category for her work in the previous season of the show.
