Sauk Rapids City Council discusses moratorium on rental licenses

SAUK RAPIDS – Members of the Sauk Rapids City Council will consider temporarily suspending new residential rental licenses on Monday evening, Aug. 26.

According to an agenda item, the city is observing an increase in requests from private individuals to purchase residential rental licenses.

“There is a concern that due to the increased enquiries, the number of rental apartments may become concentrated in a particular area in the city, potentially leading to inconsistent property maintenance as rental apartments may have a lower level of maintenance compared to other residential properties,” the agenda item states.

The moratorium would allow the city to review its current ordinance and determine if standards are being met. According to city documents, the city intends to lift or reduce the moratorium if new ordinances and regulations are adopted.

Residential rental properties that are already licensed would not be affected by the temporary measure.

The Sauk Rapids City Council will meet on Monday, August 26, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sauk Rapids Government Center, 250 Summit Ave. N.
