Marks & Spencer tests new clothing-only store format

British multinational retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) will open a new clothing-only store this autumn to appeal to a younger audience.

The boutique-style store will be located in London’s Battersea Power Station, a recently revitalized shopping mall, The Telegraph reported.

With this initiative, M&S aims to make a strategic shift and capitalise on the recent increase in fashion sales.

The store will offer a curated selection of women’s and men’s clothing and beauty products and is part of a plan to open more clothing-only stores across the country if the concept proves successful.

M&S managing director Stuart Machin highlighted the new store as a place to “showcase the best of M&S clothing and cosmetics at an excellent price”.

The new Marks & Spencer stores, which will be in a new, smaller format, are scheduled to open this autumn.

These boutique-style stores differ from traditional M&S stores in that they are more compact and offer personalized style advice.

The new store format will be called Marks & Spencer.

The decision to open these stores follows a significant increase in the retailer’s clothing sales, particularly among younger customers who have shown strong interest in M&S’s underwear and wardrobe essentials such as cashmere jumpers.

Since 1987, M&S has operated pure food stores known for products such as the viral Colin the Caterpillar cake and Percy Pigs sweets.

However, the company has also operated clothing-only stores in locations where food sales were restricted due to building regulations.

Last month, M&S reopened its mezzanine store at Liverpool Street Station in central London.
