The user reported that his SpiceJet flight was delayed by several hours.
A netizen who was about to board his flight at Terminal 1 of Delhi airport said he had the “worst flight experience” of his life due to the exorbitant food prices and flight delay. Writing on Reddit, the user said he had arrived at the airport early to access the lounge, but it was undergoing renovations. The user then decided to eat at one of the food stalls, but noticed that the food was “insanely overpriced.”
“I arrived at Delhi airport’s T3 terminal to catch my flight which was scheduled for 10:30 am. I arrived early hoping to use the lounge but guess what, the lounge is currently undergoing renovations so I no longer have access. But that’s not so bad, right? I could just eat at one of the food outlets?” the Redditor said.
“The problem is that there are only three food outlets in the entire terminal and they are insanely overpriced. Let me give you some examples from the menu. Tea – Rs. 200, Coffee – Rs. 300, Rajma Rice – Rs. 400 (the quantity is less than your smallest bowl at home), Burger – Rs. 300 (that was the cheapest one by the way), Mendu Vada – Rs. 300 (for three pieces),” they wrote. Also, there were not enough seating and food options near the food outlets.
Regarding his flight, the user said that his SpiceJet flight was delayed by an hour. However, even after passengers boarded, the plane still had to wait for 30 minutes for departure. The Redditor then said that passengers were asked to disembark the flight at around 12:30 pm and the departure was rescheduled to 2:45 pm.

“Then things got even crazier after the flight arrived at the airport and we all started boarding the plane at 11:30am and successfully finished by 12pm. Even though the flight still didn’t take off, the hostesses kept saying that we had to wait for confirmation before we could take off and procrastinated for the next 30 minutes. And finally, at 12:30pm, we were suddenly asked to leave the flight and they got an official update that the flight is delayed and the new departure time is now 2:45pm,” they said on Reddit.
The user corrected their post to say they were departing from Terminal 1. Later, the user said in an update that the flight crew advised that the plane was “missing some parts and another flight is scheduled to deliver them. The delivery flight was scheduled to arrive at 2:30 p.m.”
Since the post was shared, it has garnered numerous reactions from social media users.
One person wrote: “First time traveller? These are pretty standard airport fares. T3 has a huge range of food options so you must have skipped this area and headed near your gate.”
“The reason your flight is delayed is because they combine passengers from two different flights to save costs when one flight is not fully booked. So it is better not to book with SpiceJet,” said another.
A third user said: “You should bring food from home instead of moaning about airport food prices. Airport food is expensive all over the world. This is like coming to the beach and moaning about the sand.”
“Food prices at airports are reasonable, the shops are rented and the rent is too high so the food you buy there is also expensive. This is true for all airports, even outside India. The shops at airports are not working for charity, they have to make profit and pay salaries to the employees and feed their families, pay electricity, water, logistics costs etc,” commented a Reddit user.
