Alex Pereira visits the old tire repair shop in Brazil where he used to work

Alex Pereira is back to fixing tires in Brazil. The UFC light heavyweight champion has been on a roll lately in the Dana White-led promotion. However, his beginnings were very humble, as the 37-year-old dropped out of school and had to work at a local tire shop. Pereira also worked as a bricklayer’s assistant until he started achieving greatness in kickboxing. In a recently uploaded Instagram story, Poatan was once again spotted fixing tires.

The video looked like Alex Pereira was filming some kind of documentary. During filming, Pereira showed off his tire skills. Poatan handled the tire effortlessly and separated it from the rim in a snap. However, this is not the first time Alex Pereira has demonstrated his tire changing skills. In June 2024, Poatan and his children traveled to Las Vegas.

Unfortunately, the taxi carrying Pereira’s children got a flat tire on the way to the destination. Alex Pereira didn’t let the crisis get him down, quickly got out the jack and got to work. With impeccable skill, the UFC light heavyweight champion changed the tire in a matter of minutes while the taxi drivers looked on in awe. Looking back on the incident, Pereira compared this skill to riding a bicycle.

Pereira explained: “It’s like riding a bike: once you know how to do it, you can do it. I thought I didn’t know how to do it anymore… because the guy didn’t have a jack and he had to get the jack from the other guy. But you know what I mean, I just got it done.” While changing the tires on a car is a piece of cake for Pereira, his professional career could be in turmoil.

After successfully defending his light heavyweight title twice this year, Alex Pereira will now defend his title for the third time against Khalil Rountree Jr. While the choice of Rountree Jr. as an opponent over the likes of Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Blachowicz caused a stir, several veterans of the sport have expressed their concerns for Pereira. According to Chael SonnenKhalil Rountree Jr. will pose a significant threat to Alex Pereira due to his fighting style.

Sonnen mentioned that Rountree Jr. has a counter-attacking based fighting style that could spell doom for Pereira. Since Poatan is usually out to attack, this could leave him vulnerable to a potential knockout punch from Rountree Jr. So, with things reportedly getting worrisome for Pereira, it remains to be seen how well Poatan handles the issues.
