S02 cloud in UK: Health warning issued in UK as corrosive gas cloud engulfs UK skies

People in the UK have been urged to stay indoors as a corrosive cloud of sulphur dioxide (SO2) resulting from recent volcanic eruptions in Iceland envelops the UK. The massive acidic gas cloud is expected to cover the entire country by 4am. SO2, a harmful byproduct of volcanic activity and the burning of coal and crude oil, poses significant health risks. Inhaling SO2 can cause severe respiratory problems, including sore throat, cough, runny nose and burning eyes. Prolonged exposure is particularly dangerous for those with asthma and chronic bronchitis. Authorities have issued a health alert, warning residents to avoid outdoor activities and keep windows closed to minimise contact with the toxic gas.
