Joan Scranton, 85, of Elkins, died August 14, 2024, at Countryside Assisted Living in Huntsville, Arkansas. She was born June 18, 1939, to Cassie Lawson Ritter and Dessie Ritter. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Wally Scranton. She is survived by her daughter Sandy Wright and her husband Mark of Elkins, her grandchildren Caylee Allen and her husband Luke of Elkins and Cannon Wright and her wife Creighton of Farmington, her great-grandson Boone Allen and her brother John Ritter of Elkins. Joan had many hobbies. She was a standout basketball player in Elkins and later loved watching her daughter play and coach basketball. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports. She enjoyed collecting antiques, restoring old furniture and working in her many flower beds. Her grandchildren called her Snow White because all the wild animals flocked to her cabin to be fed. She cherished time spent with her best friends Barbara June and Sammye. She loved hamburgers, fries, root beer, and chocolate. She was a great cook, and her cakes were the best. Joan was kind, witty, and had a heart of gold. She was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, where she will be laid to rest by “Her Wally.” The service will be officiated by Moore’s Chapel.
