Chinese restaurant with pull noodles in Highland Village

A Chinese restaurant known for its steamed dumplings and hand-pulled noodles is coming to Highland Village: Called Dragon Houseit will open in the former Snuffer’s space in The Shops at Highland Village at 4050 Barton Creek, next to the AMC theater.

This is the second location of a restaurant that started in Southlake. It will open in October, according to a spokesperson.

It offers some of the Southlake location’s classics, including soup dumplings, hand-pulled noodles and fried rice, but with additional entrees and a larger selection of drinks and desserts.

“Of course, we remain true to the diverse and tasty Chinese cuisine that has made us a local favorite,” says the spokesperson.

Dragon House opened in 2019 at 2640 E. Southlake Blvd. in the Wyndham Plaza and quickly gained a following, particularly for its steamed dumplings, fried pork buns with a crispy brown bottom coated in sesame seeds, and pork wontons in chili sauce. Their noodle operation is run by “Chef Dodo,” a personable expat who previously cooked for the Chinese embassy.

They also offer Chinese classics like orange chicken, General Tso’s chicken, beef with spring onions and lo mein noodles, as well as beer and wine.

The restaurant has an interesting history: after it opened, the original owner was arrested in an anti-prostitution crackdown. The manager and employees took over and reopened the restaurant after it was briefly closed during the events.

In July, the restaurant was acquired by JJ Food & Beverage, a restaurant group that is expanding the concept. After the opening in Highland Village, a location will now also open in Dallas, the exact address to be announced.

The atmosphere at Highland Village will be even more upscale with improved interior design and a more inviting ambiance. There will also be live hand-pulling noodle demonstrations. A look inside the new restaurant, as seen in a visualization, shows low-hanging lights, a private dining room with a sliding door for more privacy and a full bar.
