Iconic Johnson City Funeral Home for Sale

A century-old funeral home building in the heart of Johnson City is for sale.

The JF Rice Funeral Home has ceased operations in recent months and the property it used at 150 Main Street in the village is now for sale.

An online listing from Linda Kent Real Estate indicates that the site is near Binghamton University’s Health Sciences campus.

The property covers approximately one acre on the south side of Main Street between Ozalid Road and Park Street.

Cheryl Kovac of Johnson City recently decided it was time to sell the property, which continued operations of JF Rice Funeral Home after her husband, Dennis Kovac, died in 1993.

The property listing shows that the funeral home’s main building was over 1,500 square meters. The ground floor of the building contained two funeral rooms and other rooms. The second and third floors contained two separate apartments.

The property includes a four-car attached garage and two detached garages – one with five spaces and the other with two spaces. The property offers parking for nearly two dozen vehicles.

The listed asking price for four adjacent lots on Main Street is $2.3 million.
