New incident: Police officers attacked at Manchester Airport, three people arrested

Three police officers were injured in an altercation at Manchester Airport on Wednesday.

Officials said they were “confronted” and attacked while investigating an abandoned, uninsured car in the airport’s Terminal 2 yesterday morning.

Three suspects – a man and two women – were arrested on suspicion of assaulting the police.

Police said they were forced to use a taser on the suspects. All three were released on bail after the incident.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police described the alleged attacks as “unacceptable”, just weeks after another altercation occurred at the same airport.

The police statement continued: “At around 7.15am, patrol officers checked an abandoned vehicle in an unauthorised location at Manchester Airport.”

“During the investigation, which revealed that the vehicle was not insured, the officers were attacked and injured by a man.

“A taser was deployed before three people – a man and two women – were taken into custody on suspicion of assaulting police.

“They were all released on bail pending further investigations.

“The investigation is ongoing, including a review of body-worn video, surveillance cameras and other available footage.

“Attacks on officers are unacceptable and we will not hesitate to take action if we become aware of any criminal acts.”

The alleged attack on police is the second in two months at the airport, which handles nearly 30 million people each year.

The incident follows an officer kicking and stamping on the head of 19-year-old Fahir Amaaz in the Terminal 2 parking lot in July.

A video of the incident went viral on the internet before a second video emerged of the moments before the stamping, in which Amaaz and his brother Muhammad Amaad (25) apparently hit three police officers.

Regarding the incident, GMP said four men were still out on bail and officers had provided a “comprehensive file of evidence” to the Crown Prosecution Service while the investigation was ongoing.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said a GMP police officer was being investigated for assault in connection with the brothers’ arrest, while a second police officer was being investigated for alleged assault.
