It’s hard to imagine that just a few miles can make all the difference when it comes to which cities in Colorado have the best or worst drivers. Consumer Affairs recently released a list of the best and worst cities for drivers in Colorado. In their methodology, they used the following key factors (per 100,000 residents).

  • Deaths due to speeding
  • Deaths with positive blood alcohol content

Safest Drivers in Northern Colorado

When it comes to safe driving in Northern Colorado, Fort Collins ranks fifth among the cities with the safest driving conditions in Colorado. Here’s how Fort Collins ranks on these factors.

  • Crash score: 7.70
  • Total deaths: 2.96
  • Accidents caused by poor driving: 1.78
  • Deaths due to driving under the influence of alcohol: 1.19
  • Deaths due to speeding: 0.59
  • Deaths with positive blood alcohol content: 1.19

Greeley, Colorado, ranked sixth as the best city for drivers in the state. Boulder ranked first as the overall safest city in the state of Colorado.

The Worst Drivers in Northern Colorado

Just a few miles south of the safe drivers of Fort Collins live some of the worst drivers in the state of Colorado. Loveland was ranked the third worst city for drivers in Colorado.

  • Total deaths: 13.07
  • Accidents caused by poor driving: 11.77
  • Deaths due to driving under the influence of alcohol: 7.84
  • Deaths due to speeding: 7.84
  • Deaths with positive blood alcohol content: 6.54

While Loveland was not the worst city for drivers in Colorado, when you compare the numbers to the city of Fort Collins, you can clearly see the difference. The worst city for drivers in Colorado is Commerce City, Colorado, with an overall crash score of 55.51.
