A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted 19-year-old Vonzelle Dominique Hall in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jesus Garcia.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of August 10 at the Beverly Place Apartments, 5307 Gulfway Drive, Groves.

Groves police were called to the apartments at about 1:57 a.m. and were told by dispatch that several people had left the scene and a man was lying on the ground, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Garcia had at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Surveillance and video footage reportedly showed several men in the parking lot, at least three of whom were holding what appeared to be firearms.

One of the gunmen, wearing a camouflage hoodie and hat, stood next to Garcia, who was also armed with a firearm, the document said.

The men appeared to be friends and there were no arguments between them.

Garcia reportedly had a gun in his waistband when the man in camouflage clothing diverted Garcia’s attention and then put a gun to his head. Garcia attempted to duck and flee when the person in camouflage clothing fired several shots at him. Garcia can be seen collapsing in the parking lot a short distance away.

Investigators managed to find additional surveillance videos with more detailed recordings of the events, the document says.

In an attempt to identify the suspected shooter, police posted a photo from the video on social media. A person who wished to remain anonymous called and said they believed the shooter was Hall.

On August 13, a relative of Hall’s provided an affidavit regarding the identity of the suspected shooter. Hall turned himself in to authorities on August 14.

Hall remains in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on $600,000 bail.
