More human remains were discovered in Brooklyn Bridge Park early Wednesday, less than 24 hours after police recovered skeletal remains on the same coast.
According to the NYPD, a park visitor saw the remains near Jane’s Carousel, near 47 Water Street, shortly after midnight on August 21 and called 911.
Officials found what appeared to be human bones on the rocky banks of the East River and called the office of the city’s chief medical examiner, who will conduct a further investigation into the incident. It was not immediately clear what body parts were recovered or whether they were related to the bones found Monday.
The medical examiner is also examining the first set of remains discovered by a city parks worker on the morning of Aug. 19, which are reported to be a human skull. According to the city’s Health and Sanitation Department, forensic anthropologists will likely try to confirm that both sets of bones are human. They will also try to determine the age, sex and race of the body to identify the deceased person.
