Sauce Magazine – Sylvie Dee’s in Webster Groves: a first look at the charming new ice cream shop

The store also has candy galore and a fully stocked coffee bar

Just when we thought Webster Groves couldn’t get more charming, a pint-sized ice cream, candy and coffee shop Sylvie Dees opened earlier this summer at 8721 Big Bend Blvd. The 800 square meter space is located just a few doors down from Bagel Union And From Elmthe upcoming cocktail bar by The Vandy Property located in the Crossroads District of Webster Groves in a small complex owned by co-owners Rachel and Jay Closson.

The small space is light and airy with crisp white walls that stretch to a high ceiling, bright mid-century modern light fixtures, and plenty of colorful custom touches. Vibrant artwork by co-owner Gretchen Lewis warms up the space and balances the rainbow shelves of candy. There’s a small seating area, as well as a cozy patio between the buildings where kids can have fun with chalk drawings.

As long-time residents of Webster Groves, the Closson family felt the lack of a convenient ice cream parlor since Serendipity has moved to the Grove in 2022. Rachel had felt the urge to open her own business, so she took matters into her own hands. Sylvie Dee’s offers up to 14 flavors of Serendipity ice cream, including three vegan options – vanilla, fruit sorbet and a rotating seasonal flavor. Guests can order their scoops on ice cream sandwiches with cookies from Webster’s own Vanilla Sugar Bakery (or gluten-free, vegan cookies courtesy of Ez Treats 314), ice cream nachos with waffle cone chips or “puffies”, homemade waffle puffs garnished with syrup, powdered sugar and whipped cream.

In addition to frozen treats and a wide selection of sweets, Sylvie Dee’s also offers a take-out cafe. The full menu includes Blue Print Coffee offers everything from cold brews to flavored lattes with a wide selection of syrups to affogatos.

Sylvie Dee’s is open Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00 to 8:30 p.m., Friday from 12:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The walk-in window is open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
