Las Palmas is no more! Say hello to the Cottonpicker Food Mart!

ROBSTOWN – The popular corner shop “Las Palmas” closed its doors almost ten years ago and is now back under a new name and new management!

Las Palmas was a popular destination for the children from Robstown

Located on the corner of Bosquez St. and Benavides St., directly across from Robstown Early College High School’s stadium, the store is a popular hangout for high school students looking for a snack before and after school or just a place to hang out. Residents who live in the Bluebonnet and GI Forum neighborhoods like to go here because it’s within walking distance of their neighborhood.

Gwenda Gamez, the new owner of the Cotton Picker Food Mart, says it means a lot to her to give the store back to the community.

“It just feels nostalgic. People just like it, that was their place, it’s our little corner spot in the neighborhood, and we’re all just happy to have it open again,” says Gwenda Gamez (owner of Cotton Picker Food Mart).

Gwenda says she has always wanted to open her own shop and plans to take many of the nostalgic items with her on this new journey.

“You name it, we have raspas, club sandwiches, Hot Cheetos with cheese, beer with dressing and even margaritas,” says Gwenda Gamez.

Gwenda says she chose the store opening hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. so that students can come before school starts and get all the snacks they want before school.
