Dallas restaurant expands groundbreaking culinary program

A new bar-restaurant has opened in the old Stoneleigh P at 2926 Maple Ave.: It’s called Bar W, and it comes from a team that includes Bob Woody, the famous Austin restaurant veteran also known as the Mayor of Sixth Street, to develop this vibrant new sports bar concept.

Woody is a prolific bar owner who has owned dozens of Austin establishments, including Shakespeare Pub, The Ranch, Buford’s Bear Garden, and White Tiger. At Bar W, he partners with Randall Johnson and Barrett Nicholson, two Austin hospitality veterans.

Definitely a departure from the faded glory of Stoneleigh P, Bar W offers a more upscale look, large screens and a gaming area: a place to watch sport and play with friends in a casual but lively atmosphere.

Woody says he and his team worked on the space for more than a year, working through Dallas building codes to ultimately give the place a major upgrade, including windows that let in plenty of natural light and a beautiful slate patio with an expanded dog-friendly area.

There are pinball machines, a photo booth and an open kitchen so you can watch the flatbreads come out of the deck oven. There’s also free parking in the back.

“The team saw the potential of the neighborhood and wanted to recreate the feel of 6th Street in Austin and bring entertainment in a sports bar setting to Uptown Dallas,” says bar manager Alex Sylvie.

Stoneleigh P left Maple Avenue in the spring of 2024 after 50 years in the space and has since reopened on Lemmon Avenue.

Bar W is a full bar serving beer, wine and cocktails, including the famous “Man-Mimosas” – fruity-flavored mimosas served in large 32-ounce beer mugs – as well as Sour Apple and Cherry Bomb shots for $4.

There is a small menu of salads, sandwiches and flatbreads ranging in price from $11 to $15. Salads include a house salad and a Caesar salad, while sandwiches include a burger and a chicken sandwich.

Flatbreads – they call them “bread pizzas” – are their signature dish: They have a unique shape in the form of a narrow, elongated oval about 18 inches long. Varieties include a flatbread with fennel sausage, peppers, onions and garlic and a vegetarian flatbread with roasted garlic and mozzarella.

Sylvie says her goal when it comes to food and drink is to keep it simple and inexpensive.

“Our menu is designed to complement the bar offering – it should be good and affordable at the same time,” says Sylvie.
