Eaton supports Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in building a new central power plant and accelerating progress toward net-zero carbon emissions

Smart energy management company Eaton announced it has been awarded a contract to help Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) build its innovative central electric utility station (eCUP). The project is designed to help DFW achieve its ambitious goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 and is funded in part by the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Eaton’s equipment contribution to the project is valued at nearly $10 million and is scheduled for installation in spring 2025.

The central power generation plant will be powered primarily by electricity that the airport sources 100% from renewable sources and will provide additional capacity to meet future heating and cooling needs as the airport grows.

“We are proud to be part of this groundbreaking sustainability project that demonstrates how to simultaneously increase the footprint of a critical building and reduce environmental impact,” said Angie McMillin, president of Energy Solutions and Services at Eaton. “There is significant government support for infrastructure investments that enable far more robust and sustainable energy systems. By providing Dallas Fort Worth International Airport with the solutions, services and expertise needed to make this project a reality, we are demonstrating our ability to help customers reduce emissions while improving reliability and return on investment.”

Eaton will provide DFW with the electrical infrastructure, services and expertise needed to safely construct the central utility power plant, including:

– Key power distribution equipment, including medium and low voltage assemblies, switchboards, medium voltage transformers, busbar trunking and more to create a safe, reliable electrical backbone for the utility

– Engineering services and advice on the safe commissioning of equipment and the conduct of important studies on the electrical safety of power systems

– Experienced support as a long-standing government contractor in meeting federal funding requirements for infrastructure projects

Eaton helps its customers simplify compliance with federal guidelines for critical infrastructure projects. To streamline this project, Eaton helped DFW demonstrate compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Project (AIP) funds and domestic preference requirements.
