Progress on Crookston School District Multipurpose Project Continues

Construction on the Crookston School District’s multi-purpose complex continues and progress is being made. Sod installation began last week, scoreboard installation is nearly complete, and other notable progress has been made as well.

“It’s an exciting time because most people who have driven by have seen rolls of turf in the parking lot with hardly any left. So the majority of the turf has been laid and the majority will be laid tonight (Monday) and they’ll be working on getting the turf finished,” said Nate Lubarski, Crookston High School activities director. “It looks great and we’ll do a walkthrough beforehand to make sure everything is in place as far as lines, softball batter boxes and other things. But yeah, it looks great out here.”

The scoreboard and video board have been installed, and on Tuesday the public address system and a sign that says “Home of the Pirates” will be installed at the top. “They’re working their way up from the bottom to the top, bit by bit, so they’re almost at the top,” Lubarski said. “It’s breathtaking. It’s big and it’s going to be a lot of fun for our athletes to perform, see the scoreboard and get our community to come out and watch a game.”

Construction on the restrooms and concession stand is progressing well. “They’re continuing to work tirelessly. The plumbers are there and they’re laying the walls right now and getting ready to put the siding on. The electricians are working there as well,” Lubarski said. “There’s a pretty large amount of concrete being poured that’s being poured outside of the concession stand, which is kind of a little plaza. I think it’s going to be nice for people to hang out there once they get their concession stands, so there’s still a little bit of concrete to be poured, but they’re working on it, and they’re definitely working hard.”

Work is underway on the pole vault, long and triple jump, high jump, discus and shot put areas behind the bleachers/press box and north of the field and track. “It looks like they’ll be pouring the shot put rings soon, along with the slab for the visitors’ press box,” Lubarski said. “The visitors’ press box is not being built this year, but we will pour the slab so we can move some of the bleachers from the football field here.”

The big question on everyone’s mind is when the project will be completed. “We’re on schedule. We get updates every Wednesday and I have a feeling this Wednesday is going to be a pretty good meeting,” Lubarski said. “All the turf is laid and we’re getting told how much time is left on the turf. All the bags of pellets have to go on the turf and it looks like it’s almost done but it’s not there yet.”

The two major tasks that remain to be completed include completing the bathroom/concession building and installing the upper portion of the track.
