Nash & Smash opens in Silver Spring in September

Nash & Smash, a halal restaurant serving Nashville hot chicken sandwiches and smash burgers, will open its first location in Silver Spring, Montgomery County, in early to mid-September, according to owner Zayan Abbasi.

“Almost everything is ready,” Abbasi told MoCo360 on Monday, noting that the store, located in the Woodmoor Shopping Center at 10121 Colesville Road, has received its final permits and inspection approvals from the county.

According to the MoCo Show, which first reported on the restaurant’s opening in December, the store’s signs and window decals have been on the restaurant since around late June.

The new store will be located in the former space of a Subway sandwich shop, between Bento, a Japanese restaurant, and Woodmoor Cleaners.

Nash & Smash opened its first store in Manassas, Virginia, in February, and Abbasi says business is going well in the community.

“People love our sandwiches,” he said.

In addition to hot chicken sandwiches and smash burgers, the menu also includes fried chicken strips and wings, mac and cheese, waffle fries and mocktails. According to the Nash & Smash website, the restaurant strives to use high-quality and local ingredients in its products.

Abbasi said the Nash & Smash concept was in the works for about three years before he opened the Manassas store. Since opening the first store, he has opened two locations in Maryland, in Ellicott City and Laurel, and in Ashburn and Herndon in Virginia.

Abassi said he decided to open a location at the Woodmoor mall because he has always enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the center at the intersection of Colesville Road and University Boulevard. It also helped that the owner of the mall where the Manassas store is located also owns the Woodmoor center, he said.

When Nash & Smash opens, Abassi said he is looking forward to being in an area with plenty of restaurants and transportation options near Montgomery Blair High School, which is about a block away on the opposite corner of the intersection.
