BART officials warned passengers Monday afternoon of significant delays in all directions due to smoke and a possible fire on a train at MacArthur Station, requiring the evacuation of passengers from the train.

The account @SFBARTalert on X first reported on the delays shortly after 2:30 p.m. and upgraded the incident to significant delays a few minutes later.

BART confirmed just before 3 p.m. that an eastbound train had to be taken out of service due to smoke and a possible fire on the train. All passengers were safely evacuated from the train and no injuries were reported.

The Oakland Fire Department confirmed that its crews are en route to the fire.

There were also reports that MacArthur Station was closed, but the agency has not confirmed those reports.
