Restaurant partners with Rapid City Walmart to open new location | Lifestyle

RAPID CITY, SD – The restaurant space at the Walmart at 1200 N Lacrosse Street has sat unused for years since the McDonald’s closed there. Soon it will be filled again.

Building permits recently filed with the City of Rapid City indicated that the construction planned at this location was the remodeling of an A&W restaurant.

Liz Bazner, vice president of marketing and innovation at A&W Restaurants, confirmed that a franchise partner plans to open a location there.

There is currently an A&W franchise location in Rapid City at 501 Deadwood Ave. Reports say the new lacrosse location will be owned by a different franchisee.

Dakota Root Beer is also opening a location in Spearfish. The Spearfish location is scheduled to open in September and the Rapid City location is scheduled to open in October.

A&W claims to be the only restaurant chain in the U.S. that is wholly owned by franchisees. Keurig Dr Pepper owns the A&W bottled and canned business.
