Deadly shooting on Pittsburgh Home Depot property attributed to attempted gun sale

OHIO TOWNSHIP, PA — A gun sale attempt gone wrong led to a man being shot dead in the parking lot of Home Depot-Giant Eagle earlier this month, according to Allegheny County police.

Jordan Geiger, 18, a recent graduate of Freedom Area High School, met with Emmanuel Houghton, 19, and Tyler Stewart, 22, at the property near Camp Horne Road where the transaction was supposed to take place, according to court documents. Instead, an altercation ensued that resulted in Geiger being shot.

Houghton, of Carnegie, and Stewart, of McKeesport, face charges including manslaughter, conspiracy and various firearms violations.

A few minutes after the shooting, Geiger crashed his car near Gass and Ben Avon Heights streets, not far from the grocery store. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where he died. Doctors discovered a gunshot wound under one armpit after his death.

Both Houghton and Stewart denied firing the shot that killed Geiger, but both said they heard a gunshot.

Houghton and Stewart were both arrested on August 14 in separate incidents unrelated to Geiger’s death.

Houghton was arrested in Monongahela after an hours-long standoff with police. The incident, which began with a pursuit of a stolen vehicle, resulted in gunfire being exchanged between Houghton and police. Stewart was arrested overnight in Pittsburgh’s Banksville neighborhood after a police chase and attempted carjacking.

Houghton and Stewart are both being held in the county jail. No preliminary hearings have been scheduled for either, according to court records.
