Top travel destinations for beer lovers: Greenville and Charleston are among the best

This summer, beer tourism is in full swing and tourists are looking for the best destinations to enjoy their beer.

And when it comes to a good drink, South Carolina has some of the best beer cities in the USA

A recent study by Tasting Table found that Greenville is the fifth best destination for beer lovers, with Charleston coming in at number 17 and Columbia at number 26. The key metrics used to determine the results were the number of bars, breweries, beer tasting tours and the average price of beer.

Greenville and Charleston are among the top-ranked cities in the study

Greenville has 2.47 breweries and 18.40 bars per 10,000 residents, according to the study. The city offers its own beer tasting tour, showcasing notable breweries such as Southern Growl, Fireforge Craft Beer and Liability Brewing Co. Beer is also affordable in the area, costing as little as $5 per pint, according to the study. The Greenville Craft Beer Festival and Euphoria Greenville, which are held annually, add to the city’s beer scene.

By comparison, Charleston has 1.16 breweries and 12.04 bars per 10,000 residents. It beats Greenville in beer tasting tours, giving visitors a choice of five beers. The study named Reverly Brewing Co. and Edmund’s East Brewing Co. as “contributors to Charleston’s vibrant culture.” Beer costs an average of $6.75 per pint, and like Greenville, Charleston has its own fun beer events, like Charleston Beer Week and Charleston Beer Fest.

∎ Greenville, SC and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, made the top 15 due to their affordability and strong beer culture.

∎ New Orleans and Portland, Oregon, were known for their beer culture and attracted visitors from all over.

∎ Cincinnati, Ohio, was praised for its innovative beer festivals, while Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was known for its affordable beer prices and wide selection of breweries.
