Iraq increases power production to 170 MW through increased gas supplies from northern fields

Shafaq News/ On Monday, the Iraqi Oil Ministry announced that it had increased electricity supply to the Dibis, Kirkuk and Mosul gas-fired power plants to 170 megawatts, adding 50 million standard cubic feet per day (Mscfd) of gas from the Northern Gas Company.

The ministry’s statement detailed that the Northern Gas Company (NGC) increased its gas supply to power plants by 50 Mscfd.

Izzat Saber, the deputy minister for oil and gas affairs, was quoted in the statement as saying: “NGC staff, in cooperation with the North Oil Company and the Oil Pipelines Company, managed to increase gas supplies by 50 Mscfd. This contributed to an increase in electricity generation at the Dibis gas power plant in Kirkuk province by 60 to 80 megawatts, at the Kirkuk gas power plant by 60 megawatts and at the Mosul gas power plant by 40 megawatts.”

Meanwhile, Ahmed Abdul-Majid, General Manager of Northern Gas Company, said that increased gas utilization from North Oil Company’s fields resulted in an overall increase in power generation to 170 megawatts across all plants. He reiterated the company’s commitment to maximize the utilization of all available associated gas from oil activities within its area of ​​responsibility.
