Astros place RHP Ryan Pressly (back) on 15-day IL

The Houston Astros have placed right-hander Ryan Pressly on the 15-day injured list due to a back strain.

The move was retroactive to Wednesday. In a corresponding move, the Astros recalled right-hander Seth Martinez from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Pressley last pitched on Tuesday, allowing two hits and a run in one inning of Houston’s 3-2 road win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Pressley has allowed a run in each of his last four games, bringing his ERA for the month of August to 7.20.

Pressly, 35, has a 0-3 record with two saves, a 3.86 ERA, 16 walks and 49 strikeouts in 46 2.3 innings in 49 relief appearances this season.

Pressly, a two-time All-Star (2019, 2021), had a 33-36 record with 110 saves and a 3.29 ERA in 613 relief appearances in 12 seasons for the Minnesota Twins (2013-18) and Astros (2018-present).

Martinez, 29, is 3-2 with one save, a 2.92 ERA, 18 walks and 34 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings in 41 relief appearances. In four seasons with Houston, he is 6-6 with two saves, a 3.69 ERA, 54 walks and 120 strikeouts in 134 innings in 108 games.
