MIAMI DADE COUNTY, Florida. – A 19-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he shot a victim following an argument at a gas station in southwest Miami-Dade.
Miami-Dade police said an altercation occurred between Manuel Alejandro Rodriguez and the victim at a Mobil gas station at 11900 SW Eighth Street.
According to police, the incident began when Rodriguez paid for his gas at the gas station’s outside window shortly after 2 a.m.
Shortly afterwards, the victim approached him and asked him what time it was, which, according to police, led to an argument.
Police said the situation escalated when the victim threw a plastic trash can at Rodriguez and walked away.
In response, Rodriguez pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim, who police said was unarmed and posed no immediate threat.
The victim is said to have shouted at Rodriguez: “If you want to shoot me, then do it.”
Authorities said Rodriguez then fired a single shot, hitting the victim in the hip before fleeing the scene.
According to a police report, the victim was treated at Jackson South Medical Center for a gunshot wound.
Authorities said they identified Rodriguez through a photo lineup and then took him into custody at his home.
According to prison records, he is charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Since Thursday, Rodriguez has been held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bail has not yet been determined.
