Thane: A 23-year-old scrap dealer succumbed to his injuries, a day after he was attacked while trying to break up a brawl over a parking space in Dombivli. According to police, the incident took place on August 13 in Golavli area when a certain Mohammad Jahangir came to the shop of the victim, Babblu Gupta, with a truck loaded with scrap.

Jahangir was unloading papers when a group of men parked their two-wheelers at the same spot. He asked them to move their bikes so that he could park his vehicle. This led to a heated argument between them. Meanwhile, Babblu and his associates intervened to calm them down, but the group called their friends.

A mob of 15 to 20 people gathered outside the shop and started attacking Babblu while his employees fled. Due to his injuries, he could hardly walk and decided to rest somewhere near his shop where he was found unconscious.

Locals alerted his family members and the police. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment. A murder case was subsequently filed.

Inspector Ram Chopade of Manpada police station said, “We have arrested one accused, Pradeep Gaikwad, while the others are still at large. He has been produced in the court and remanded in police custody for further investigation. We have formed a team and will nab the absconders soon.”
