Man charged with dragging Springfield police officer through grocery store parking lot

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri (KY3) – A Springfield man has been charged after he dragged a Springfield police officer a short distance through a grocery store parking lot.

According to online court records, Scott Holleman is charged with second-degree assault on a special victim, resisting arrest and failure to register a motor vehicle.

According to Springfield police, the officer was approached around 6 p.m. by two managers at the Hy-Vee on the corner of Battlefield Road and Kansas Expressway who demanded that Holleman leave the premises.

Managers told the officer that Holleman had been evicted several times in the past two weeks without entering the property.

The officer then pulled his motorcycle behind Holleman’s Yukon SUV, which was parked in the middle of one of the parking lanes.

According to court documents, the officer attempted to make contact with Holleman, but he drove off until the officer yelled “stop.”

The officer and Holleman then talked while Holleman was stopped with the engine running. Holleman told the officer he had sent an email to his ex-wife.

According to authorities, Holleman was uncooperative when asked several times to park the SUV, provide legal documents and turn off the SUV.

Moments later, Holleman fired the gun and the police officer tried to pull him out, but Holleman was wearing a seatbelt.

The officer mentioned in court documents that he was dragged about 85 feet across the parking lot from his original location.

Another officer responding to the call observed that the dragged officer had abrasions on both arms near the elbows. The officer also noticed scratch marks on the back of the dragged officer’s motorcycle helmet.

The officer was treated at a hospital and then released. Officers also found Holleman at Mercy Springfield and arrested him.

According to court documents, Holleman’s Yukon was not registered and the license plate did not belong to him.

Police also said Hollemna had a long criminal past:

  • Violation of a protection order in 2013
  • Previous domestic violence charges, the last domestic violence charge was in 2020
  • Four DWIs between 2000 and 2006
  • Is also a suspect in several theft cases
  • Suspect flew from the scene of the accident in May

According to authorities, Holleman is homeless and was living in his SUV.
