ST. LOUIS, Missouri (First Alert 4) – St. Louis CITY SC and Schnucks are teaming up for a week-long food drive.
The food drive will begin on August 18 and run through August 25. According to organizers, all Schnucks in the greater St. Louis area will participate.
The food collection benefits Operation Food Search.
Organizers are hosting a special fundraiser on August 21st with CITY players Chris Durkin, Hosei Kijima and Jake Nerwinkski. The event will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at Schnucks Des Peres. The first 150 people in line to drop off donations will be able to meet the players and get autographs. The meet-and-greet line opens at 3:00 p.m.
“We are deeply grateful to St. Louis CITY SC and Schnuck Markets for their commitment to providing children, families and individuals with the food they need to thrive,” said Kristen Wild, President and CEO of Operation Food Search. “At a time when food donations are declining and many of our neighbors are struggling to keep up, supporting these generous partners is more important than ever.”
Organizers listed these items as the most requested for the food drive:
- Chicken, light tuna and salmon (canned and bagged)
- Canned chicken soup, chili, meat/bean stews
- Canned fruit (in natural juices)
- Diced tomatoes, tomato paste, canned spaghetti sauce (low sodium preferred)
- Canned beans (low sodium preferred)
- Instant brown rice, wholemeal pasta
- Ready meals
- Canned vegetables
- Dried spices: chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, basil
- Deodorant, toothbrushes & toothpaste
- Products made from cans with tear-off lids are particularly popular
- No glass containers or ramen noodles
