The eighth annual Outlaw Flat Track Series returns to Fuji Park on August 23 and 24.

On Friday, August 23, the Fire and Police Charity Run will take place, where Robert Hansen, the event’s organizer, and his company have raised more than $20,000 over the past three years.

Hansen said this year’s fundraiser will benefit local FMX rider Matt Buyten, who was paralyzed in an FMX accident in Colorado in late June.

Buyten was very close to Hansen’s son Ryan and the rest of his family.

“I’d like to make it a big deal,” Hansen said. “If I could get a few hundred more people there, we could raise even more money for Matt.”

This year the plan is to raise money to help Buyten through t-shirt sales, entry fees and donations.

In recent years, donations have been raised for the Tamarack Fire Department, local police department and local high schools.

Most of the racers come from out of town and compete for prize money of nearly $20,000.

Tickets are available at the game for $35. Children under 12 are free.

The gates open at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and the races start at 7 p.m.

Amateur lessons take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Thursdays there is a practice session from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
