A man with a history of trespassing was taken into custody and charged with hundreds of counts of possession of child pornography and over a dozen counts of digital voyeurism.

On August 9, Ocala Police Officer David Barry arrested Joshua Deshawn Gaines at Walmart, 2600 SW 19th Avenue Road. Gaines had received a trespassing citation a year ago. Gaines was taken to the county jail for booking.

Police officials said Gaines secretly filmed young girls in Walmart. Officers said they found a recording device in a bag he was carrying. The bag had a hole in one corner, officials said.

Gaines, 32, of Ocala, received a citation from Walmart for trespassing in August 2023. In that case, Ocala Cpl. Luis Camacho viewed store security surveillance video that showed Gaines filming and following girls as they walked around the store.

At the time, Camacho warned Gaines that he could be arrested again if he was caught in the store. Officers said Gaines was simply expecting a trespassing warrant because there was no other law at the time that applied to what he was doing. The change in the law allowed officers to not only arrest Gaines for trespassing, but also obtain a search warrant for his videos.

Camacho said he found several instances of digital voyeurism when he reviewed the videos. Camacho obtained another search warrant for additional files in Gaines’ possession. Those files include more than 600 images of child pornography, officials said.

Gaines is charged with 402 counts of possession of child pornography and 17 counts of digital voyeurism. According to court documents, Gaines has two previous convictions for trespassing.
