Woman who claimed she was attacked in Silver Creek Metro Park faces charges

A 32-year-old woman who told Summit County Metro Parks rangers she was attacked by two men and later found to have made up the story is now facing misdemeanor charges.

According to Barberton Municipal Court records, the woman was charged with setting off false alarms and causing panic, both first-degree felonies.

The alleged attack occurred on July 28 in Silver Creek Metro Park.

Summit Metro Parks rangers, Norton police and the State Fire Marshall’s Office investigated the woman’s statements and concluded that they were “falsely stated” and that she had inflicted the injuries on herself.

“The individual involved in this incident has made it clear that he fabricated the details of the attack and filed a false report,” Metro Parks said in an interview with News 5 earlier this month.

According to authorities, the woman admitted that she poured gasoline on her legs and then set herself on fire.
