Bodycam video shows an Orange County deputy shooting a man in a supermarket

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office released bodycam video Tuesday showing a deputy shooting a man who entered a 7-Eleven near Orlando with a gun in July.

The sheriff’s office said officers conducted surveillance on a home on July 12 where several suspected gang members were staying, all of whom were “suspected of numerous crimes.”

A man – later identified as 19-year-old Robert Mayberry – was seen with a gun as he left the house and rode a scooter to the convenience store at the corner of West Oak Ridge Road and Kingsgate Drive.

According to a press release, Mayberry entered the 7-Eleven, where patrol officers attempted to make contact with him. Mayberry “moved toward the gun in his waistband” before a patrol officer shot him.

The video shows a second deputy attempting to take the gun away from Mayberry, who fell to the ground after being shot. The first deputy shoots Mayberry again after he ignores several commands not to reach for the gun.

Mayberry was pronounced dead at the scene.
