Aena’s Spanish airports recorded over 31.9 million passengers in July

The airports of the Aena network in Spain have closed the seventh month of 2024 with a historic record number of passengers, aircraft movements and cargo in a month of July, continuing the upward trend since the beginning of the year and most of last year. In July 2024, Aena received 31,900,662 passengers, 7.2% more than in the same month of 2023; it handled 259,841 aircraft movements, 7.3% more than in 2023; and it transported 106,659 tons of cargo, 22.9% more than the previous year. Of the total number of passengers in July, 31,828,032 were commercial passengers: 22,241,650 traveled on international flights, 8.9% more than in July 2023, while 9,586,382 traveled on domestic flights, 3.3% more than last year.

By July 2024, 176,051,893 passengers passed through Aena airports (10.6% more than in 2023), 1,483,073 flight movements were registered (+8%) and 711,439 tons of cargo were transported, 19.7% more than in the same period of 2023.

Passengers
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded its highest number of passengers in the seventh month of the year, with 6,132,937, an increase of 10.6% compared to July of the previous year.

This is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 5,381,969 (+9% compared to 2023); Palma de Mallorca with 4,597,872 (+5%); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 2,659,290 (+9.3%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández with 1,989,648 (+16.1%); Ibiza with 1,433,043 (-0.2%); Gran Canaria with 1,208,141 (+6%); Valencia with 1,086,627 (+4.9%) and Tenerife South with 1,079,569 passengers, an increase of 13.8% compared to July 2023.
In addition to the entire Aena network, total passenger records were broken at seven airports in July: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Valencia, Bilbao and Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna.

Operations
In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in July was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with a total of 37,773 flights (+9.6% compared to 2023), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 32,768 flights (+6.9%); Palma de Mallorca with 31,243 (+4.5%); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 18,399 (+6.2%); Ibiza with 13,082 (-0.5%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández with 12,139 (+14.7%) and Gran Canaria with 11,231 landings and takeoffs (+6%).

In the seventh month of 2024, in addition to the entire network, record operations were achieved at five airports in July, namely Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Burgos and Logroño.

In terms of cargo traffic, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport had the highest volume of cargo with 64,229 tonnes, 23.4% more than in the same month of 2023. This was followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport with 16,078 tonnes (+19.5%), Zaragoza Airport with 13,028 tonnes (+49.4%) and Vitoria Airport with 6,175 tonnes (+3.7%).
