Central Texas Restaurant Report Card: 8/8/24

(KWTX) – Here’s this week’s restaurant report card for Central Texas:

Taqueria El Mexicano Grille #9 at 1420 North Valley Mills Drive in Waco, he failed a routine inspection with 60 points (40 penalty points) and had to pay a fine.

According to the food safety officer, the raw beef, barbacoa, tripe, beef, some pork carnitas and pollo guisada were either old or not stored at the correct temperature and were thrown away.

In addition, according to the report, the person responsible did not have sufficient knowledge of hygiene, correct food temperatures and contamination minimization.

And an employee wiped his sweat and didn’t wash his hands.

There were many more violations.

Snowflake Donuts at 105 South Wiebusch Street in Riesel failed the renewal test with 83 points (17 minus points).

According to the Food Safety Officer, some diced, cooked potatoes in the refrigerator were 7 days too old and labels were missing.

Some creams and ready-made doughs were not stored at the right temperature and, among other things, the cooling box broke about 4 months ago.

Hokkaido Ramen & Sushi at 4300 West Waco Drive in Waco failed the renewal test with 86 points (14 demerit points).

According to the food safety officer, some cooked beef and salmon fillets for sushi were not stored cool enough.

In addition, raw beef and pork were sometimes not stored at the correct temperature.

An employee did not wash his hands properly.

All of these points had to be checked again.

And this week’s Clean Plate Award goes to Cheese House Lorena at 102 East Center Street in Lorena.

According to the owner, she sells cheese from her husband’s family farm.

Spicy, herbal and matured.

The grilled cheese is a favorite.

There are four different types of soup and cheese to choose from every day.

There are side dishes and you can round out your lunch with a cupcake or other baked goods.

If you want to take something home, you will find 25 to 45 different types of cheese in the shop every day.
