“Not OK”: Entrepreneur criticises unhygienic practices at Bengaluru Airport

Since the post was shared, it has been viewed over 33,000 times.

Anand Nichani, Managing Director of Magniflex India, recently criticised Bengaluru airport for unhygienic practices on its premises. He accused the airport administration of making passengers use the same shoe racks during security checks and scanning personal items such as computers and phones.

“The same trays that carry our dirty shoes are used at airport security for our personal belongings! This is NOT OK! @BLRAirport it’s time to make special trays for shoes MANDATORY so it’s cleaner and more pleasant for everyone! Who agrees with me? #HygieneMattersBIAL,” he said on X (formerly Twitter).

In response, the official account of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru said that there are special shoe racks for this purpose. “Hi @NichaniAnand, Hygiene and passenger wellbeing is our top priority, so for convenience, we have placed special shoe racks near all X-ray machines,” it said.

However, Mr Anand said he could not find any shoe storage pile near the seat belt. “And yet people use the same racks for their shoes? I did not find any shoe storage pile near my seat belt!! Why is this not mandatory?” he wrote on the microblogging platform.

Since the post was shared, it has garnered over 33,000 views and six hundred likes on the platform.

“Keeping airports clean is crucial to a smooth travel experience. A clean entrance is a welcoming entrance!” said one user.

One person commented: “Cleanliness should never be neglected when travelling. Support the call for change!”

“The children’s jackets and things also belong in the same box, that could endanger them! We definitely need separate shoe boxes!” someone remarked.

“Not only at Bangalore airport. The situation is the same at many airports across India. Disgusting behavior by the airport officials. I always carry old newspapers in my bag and always cover the tray with a paper before placing my personal belongings on it,” commented one user.
