Dog rescued after abuse video shared online awaits ‘forever’ home

Daisy the dog’s story first came to light last week. A video of her abuse went viral and the PSPCA rushed to rescue her.

A week later, Daisy blooms, says Gillian Kocher, public relations director for the PSPCA.

“You would never know that anything had happened to her, and I think that’s a sign of the resilience of dogs. They really do bounce back. That shouldn’t be necessary, but it is,” Kocher explained.

And that’s definitely the case with Daisy. The PSPCA took Daisy into their care on July 30 after receiving tips from the public about a video circulating on social media showing the dog being beaten and picked up by the skin of her rear end.

Kocher continued, “We always rely on the public for things like this. We have to speak up, and everyone did in this case. That’s how we were able to find Daisy and the person who did this to her. But we also got a lot of shouts of, ‘I would adopt this dog if you would rescue him.'”

But Daisy is still at the shelter and unfortunately she is receiving little to no interest there. Kocher says she has made a complete turnaround since the day she came here. “When you watch the video of her, which is hard for anyone to watch, you can tell from her behavior that she is just withdrawing into herself. But here we see none of that. We just see her happiness, her puppy energy. We think she knows she is safe here, and she is.”

Daisy is probably about eight months old. She’s a quick learner and is damn good at sitting for treats.

“She is very sweet and happy but has a lot of energy, so she is an active household. She could be with another dog, probably older children because we have seen her darting around the room, but I think she will bring a lot of joy to someone,” Kocher added.

Anyone wishing to adopt Daisy must bring the entire family and any dogs that live there to ensure it’s a fit. The PSPCA is located at 351 East Erie Avenue in the Hunting Park neighborhood of Philadelphia. It’s open daily from noon to 6 p.m. Visit their website for more information.
