Candy and snacks sold at Target and Walmart are being recalled in several states

The Palmer Candy Company, which supplies a variety of snacks and candies to stores across the country, including Walmart and Target, has initiated a recall of numerous products due to the risk of salmonella.

The company announced the recall in early May of this year, but on August 6, the recall was classified by the FDA as Class I, which is the highest risk level, as reported Consumer Affairs.

The FDA defines a Class I recall as “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that use of or exposure to a noncompliant product will cause serious health consequences or death.”

At this time, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products.

Salmonella is a bacterial disease that can cause a range of symptoms, but the most common are stomach problems such as vomiting, pain and diarrhea, as well as fever and headache, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

The Palmer Candy Company recalled its “white coated candy items” after receiving notice from its liquid coating supplier that the products may be contaminated with salmonella due to a possible contamination of one of the ingredients.

Customers were instructed to return all recalled products to the place of purchase for a full refund or to call Palmer Candy Company’s contact number at 1-800-831-0828 with any questions or concerns.

The recalled products include Caramel Swirl Pretzels, Classic Yogurt Pretzels, Cookies & Cream Yummy Chow, Enrobed Pretzel Rods, Favorite Day Bakery White Fudge Mini Cookies, Frosted Munchy Medley Bowl, Frosted Patriot Frosted Pretzels, Frosted Pretzels, Munchy Medley, Patriotic Munchy Medley Bowl, Patriotic Pretzels, Patriotic Red, White & Blue Pretzel Twists and Patriotic Snack Mix.

The following products were also affected by the recall: Patriotic White Fudge Cookies, Peanut Butter Snack Mix, Snackin’ With The Crew! Mizzou Munchy Medley, Star Snacks Chow Down, Strawberry Yogurt Coated Pretzels, Sweet Smiles Yogurt Covered Pretzels, Yogurt Pretzel and Zebra Fudge Cookies. The exact sizes and expiration dates are listed in the official FDA recall.

The recalled Palmer Candy Company items were sold at Walmart, Target, HyVee and Dollar General in several U.S. states.
