Florida Man ‘Lieutenant Dan’ Refuses to Leave Boat as Hurricane Milton Approaches, Says ‘Boats Float’

A Florida man known as “Lieutenant Dan” has caused a stir on social media after refusing to abandon his 20-foot sailboat as the approaching Category 5 Hurricane Milton. With winds of up to 175 miles per hour, this hurricane is one of the most powerful storms in Atlantic history. Despite the evacuation warnings, Lieutenant Dan remains determined, declaring, “The boats float,” and he expresses that his only fear is “waking up broke.” His comments, shared on Twitter by DramaAlert, have sparked a mix of concern and admiration online.

Barstool Sports contributor Karim commented on the situation, noting that while Dan’s decision seems reckless, he may also be a man who knows exactly what he wants. Dan added that he would only give up his boat for a woman, showing his determination to weather the storm at sea. Karim also pointed to Barstool President Dave Portnoy, who has shared several videos of Captain Dave, a fellow boating enthusiast, experiencing near-death encounters on the water.

As Hurricane Milton approaches with winds of 180 mph, authorities are urging residents to evacuate. However, Lieutenant Dan’s defiance has caught the attention of the internet. Bussin producer Jack McPherson, who has followed Dan’s journey, said: “I would be devastated if he doesn’t make it, but I believe he has the heart to survive.” Social media continues to follow the path of the storm and Dan’s fate.
