The Jets are firing head coach and former Lions top prospect Robert Saleh

Dan Campbell is one of the most popular NFL coaches in the league. He undoubtedly enjoys tremendous approval in Detroit and among the Lions’ fan base. It’s enough for a coach to lead a franchise to its first NFC North division title and break a 30-plus-year playoff drought.

But when the Lions hired Campbell in 2021, he wasn’t a universally popular choice. In fact, Campbell was not the coach desired by a large portion of the fan base. Or even the local government.

Many wanted Robert Saleh, a Detroit native (Dearborn) who had been the very successful defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers at the time. Saleh was a very popular and successful candidate who was supported by the Michigan legislature at the time.

The Lions ultimately chose Dan Campbell and we are grateful for that decision. Saleh eventually landed the position of head coach of the New York Jets. Things didn’t go particularly well for Saleh in New York for a variety of reasons. Now he’s back looking for his next job after the Jets fired Saleh on Tuesday following the team’s loss to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings in London.

Saleh ended his coaching career with the Jets with a record of 20-36 and did not have a successful season. Campbell now has a record of 27-27-1, but has gone 24-14 since his freshman season.
