The best Apple Prime Day deal is now available. Amazon just dropped the price of the Apple AirPods Pro truly wireless noise-cancelling earbuds to just $168.99 after a 33% discount. This is a standout deal on the best Airpods earbuds and the lowest price we’ve seen for the second-generation model. In fact, it’s currently cheaper than the noise-canceling Apple AirPods 4, and for most people the AirPods Pro 2 are a better choice.

The second-generation AirPods Pro earbuds are mostly identical to their predecessor, with one major exception. The new model replaces the old Lightning port with a more universal USB Type-C port. For people who want to carry a single charging cable for all their mobile devices, this is a godsend. Two other, more trivial upgrades include dust resistance and lossless audio support when paired with Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

Even with the release of the new AirPods 4 earbuds, the AirPods Pro are the best-sounding “truly wireless” earbuds for iPhone users thanks to their low distortion driver and amplifier combined with the Apple H2 chip. In addition to active noise cancellation, the Pro features “Adaptive Transparency Mode” to capture ambient noise so you can hear your surroundings, and “Conversation Mode” that automatically lowers the volume and highlights the voices of the people you’re talking to.

Should you choose the AirPods Pro over the AirPods 4 with ANC?

With a few exceptions, this question is easy to answer. The AirPods Pro 2 are simply a superior earbud at a cheaper price. While the AirPods 4 have active noise cancellation like the AirPods Pro, they are an open-ear style earbud with fixed (non-adjustable) tips. It’s meant to sit outside the ear, which means a lot of sound escapes and ambient noise gets in. The in-ear earbud style of the AirPods Pro, combined with the custom fit of the adjustable earbuds, ensures a better seal, better passive isolation and therefore better sound quality. The only reason you should choose the AirPods 4 is if you generally don’t like the inherently intrusive nature of in-ear headphones.
